SKILLS ACQUISITION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
LAFODAP NIGERIA is committed to addressing gender discrimination and its impact on the intellectual and economic growth of girls and young females. The program seeks to empower participants by expanding their opportunities, building essential skills, and enhancing their ability to compete and thrive. Through sessions focused on leadership capacity, life/self-management, entrepreneurial skills—including vocational and agricultural components—and business and financial education, participants gain the tools to realize their full potential.
This initiative fosters confidence, self-expression, and problem-solving abilities while promoting economic empowerment and self-reliance. Girls and young females are encouraged to discover their voices, take social action, and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the nation. By providing skills that instil knowledge, values, and attitudes, LAFODAP NIGERIA equips them to create lasting positive change and reshape their futures.
Reduction Of Child Homelessness
At Love Alliance Foundation for Orphans, Disabled and Abandoned Persons in Nigeria (LAFODAP NIG.), we offer safe and loving family-style homes for children who have experienced neglect, abuse and complex trauma in their childhood.
From humble beginnings we have stayed true to our mission and have helped to protect children (orphaned, abandoned, unable to be cared for by their parents, living in squats or on the street, etc.) threatened by abuse, exploitation and neglect.
While some of the 82 children who have passed through our children’s home since we opened our doors in 2014 have been reconciled with their families, those who have no home or parents to care for them and those who cannot be safely reunited with their families remain in our care.
We understand that no two children are alike and as such, all our solutions are child-centered and completely bespoke to the unique needs of each child in our care.
Green Skills Training
Equip them with skills that are valuable in the green economy while advocating for environmental conservation.
Community Clean-up Drives: Organize regular clean-up events in areas with high plastic waste (beaches, markets, streets, etc.). Youth participants can collect plastic bottles and other waste while learning about environmental stewardship.
LAFODAP Nigeria, led by Mrs. Sobowale Adenike Rashidat, the Head of the Environmental Department, is actively advocating for sustainable fishing practices and addressing the challenges faced by fisherfolk. During a recent meeting, Mrs. Sobowale expressed her sympathy for fishermen struggling with environmental impacts such as dredging and construction activities and called for government intervention to protect their sources of livelihood. She highlighted climate change as a major obstacle, making fishing increasingly difficult due to changes like increased ocean salinity.
The one-day event brought together fishing rights activists, including representatives from the Makoko Fishermen Alliance. Mrs. Charlotte Ademola, Head of Fishermen Alliance in Makoko, emphasized the global nature of climate-induced fishing challenges and underscored the commitment of fishermen to sustainable practices. Solutions discussed included creating awareness among fishing communities and increasing membership to promote support networks and welfare initiatives, especially through groups like the Bayeku/Ibeshe Fishermen Alliance.
Mrs. Sobowale further led engagements at the Bayeku Fish Market, where interactions with fisherwomen and traders aimed to bolster community solidarity and address the socioeconomic impacts of environmental challenges. The meeting concluded with mutual gratitude and a shared dedication to empowering fisherfolk and fostering sustainable fishing practices for long-term resilience.

LAFODAP Nigeria Leads Action to “Beat Plastic Pollution” on World Environment Day 2025
Lagos, Nigeria – In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, LAFODAP Nigeria (Leadership for Development and Advocacy Programme) mobilized communities, youth groups, and stakeholders under the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
Plastic waste is choking Nigeria’s environment—from clogged drainages to polluted rivers and farmlands. LAFODAP Nigeria took bold steps to address this crisis by organizing awareness campaigns, plastic clean-ups, and recycling training programs across Lagos State, with a special focus on Ikorodu and neighboring communities.
Key Activities Held:
Community Plastic Clean-Up Drive:
Hundreds of volunteers joined LAFODAP Nigeria to remove plastic waste from streets, markets, and local waterways.
Plastic-to-Wealth Workshop:
Local youth and women received hands-on training in recycling plastic into useful products, creating new pathways for green jobs and income generation.
Youth Environmental Ambassadors:
LAFODAP Nigeria launched the Youth Against Plastic Pollution Initiative, appointing school-based ambassadors to lead year-round plastic-free campaigns.
Policy Advocacy:
LAFODAP Nigeria engaged local policymakers, urging stronger enforcement of plastic control laws, promotion of eco-friendly packaging, and investment in waste management infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vincent Ademola, President of LAFODAP Nigeria, stated:
“Plastic pollution is a silent killer of our ecosystems and our health. We must act now—not just on World Environment Day but every day. We call on citizens, government agencies, and the private sector to work together to reduce plastic waste, promote recycling, and invest in alternatives. THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!.
